The Rotary Foundation — Vision:
To enable Rotarians to advance World Understanding, Goodwill, & Peach through the many improvements of Health, the support of Education, and the Alleviation of Poverty.
It addresses Educational and Humanitarian needs. It’s non-religious, political or governmental.
In 1985, when Rotary launched its Polio eradication program, there were an estimated 350,000 new cases of Polio in 125 countries. Last year 1,263 cases were reported. More than one million Rotary members have volunteered their time or donated money to immunize two billion children in 122 countries. In 1988, Rotary money and its example were the catalyst for a global eradication drive joined by the World Health Organization, Unicef, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. In 2000 Rotary teamed up with the United Nations Foundation to raise $100 million for the program. By the time the world is certified as Polio-free probably in the years to come.
ROTARY CLUB OF ALVISO is a member of the Rotary Foundation of the Rotary International since May 21, 1990, and its members have been contributing to the Rotary International, and as of date they have contributed over $70,000. This amount has been used by the Foundation for Humanitarian and Educational needs in the world. The current members that are continuously contributing to the Foundation are a follows — John Coyle, Diony Callo, Ida Lawrence, Melvin Gurrera, Willy Denninger, Joan Hoxie, Joani Lamica, Kathy Napoli, Frank Rebozzi, Dorothy Tunuvasa, Larry Perkins and Edward Callo. All hope to continue to support the Foundation through the Rotary Club of Alviso.
